Why Action Verbs Matter for ATS and Recruiters

Two reasons strong verbs matter: 1. ATS keyword matching: Many ATS systems give extra weight to action verbs in bullet points. "Led," "Designed," and "Increased" in context of a result signals genuine achievement. 2. Recruiter psychology: Recruiters skim. A bullet starting with "Responsible for coordinating..." takes 3 words to get to the point. A bullet starting with "Coordinated..." lands immediately. The rule: Every bullet point should begin with a past-tense action verb. Your current role uses present tense; all others use past tense. Words to eliminate: • Helped, assisted, supported (passive) • Worked on, participated in (vague) • Responsible for (job description language, not achievement language) • Was tasked with (no agency) • Handled (generic)
